In an era where information must be local, credible, and accessible, Vidya University, Meerut, has established 88.8 FM VIDYA – Meerut Ki Apni Awaaz as a dedicated community radio platform to serve the educational, social, and developmental needs of Western Uttar Pradesh. Meerut and its surrounding districts represent a unique socio-economic landscape—marked by a strong agricultural base, a rapidly growing youth population, first-generation learners, small entrepreneurs, women-led households, and a deep-rooted cultural heritage. 88.8 FM VIDYA has been created to respond directly to these realities by enabling meaningful communication at the grassroots level.
The station was launched on 6th January 2026 as part of Vidya University’s long-term vision to extend learning beyond classrooms and integrate higher education with community life. The initiative has been made possible through the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Chancellor Shri Pradeep Kumar Jain and Pro-Chancellor Shri Vishal Jain, who believe that universities must function as regional knowledge hubs and social enablers.
Purpose and Relevance
Community radio is one of the most effective tools for reaching semi-urban and rural populations. Unlike commercial broadcasting, 88.8 FM VIDYA prioritizes relevance over ratings and participation over passive listening. The station functions as a two-way communication medium, allowing local voices, concerns, and solutions to be heard, discussed, and amplified. The radio station actively involves students, faculty members, subject experts, local professionals, farmers, health workers, educators, and citizens—making it a shared platform owned by the community itself.

The content strategy of 88.8 FM VIDYA is aligned with regional priorities and national development goals, including NEP 2020. Major focus areas include:
