Fashion design refers to the applied art dedicated to the design of clothing and lifestyle accessories, reflecting the current cultural and social influences. Fashion and Apparel Design comprises of all the production activities involved in the development and manufacture of apparel items for men, women and children. These include the manipulation and experimentation of textiles and trims to generate concepts and ideas that can be further translated into three-dimensional forms through pattern drafting and/or draping and sewing.

BFAD is a full time four-year degree program which includes study of drawing and sketching, elements and principles of design, history of costumes, study of fashion, pattern making, CAD, garment construction, merchandising, surface design, presentation and computer skills. The objective of the program is to emphasize innovation and creativity in fashion design while providing students the technical knowledge which is necessary for a successful entry into the fashion industry. During the program, the students are introduced to the basic skills of construction in sewing, flat pattern drafting and illustration. Field trips to fashion shows workshops, showrooms, museums and factories help to broaden the knowledge of fashion industry as do special live projects and lectures by guest speakers from academia and industry. By examining their own work and the work of their peers, the students learn to think critically about design. With this acquired knowledge students move on to the development of collections, with opportunities to present their creativity in fashion shows and competitions. Business practices, agency procedures, marketing, and client relations are also taught to support the creative side of design and give students a realistic view of the world of business.

This course at Vidya builds a strong foundation in terms of design sense, conceptualization, independent research, creative application, and individualist artistic expression. During the course, students are also introduced to various historic fashion and art movements as exemplars and how these influence contemporary fashion. A logical, sequential, hands-on experience enables our students to conceptualize fabulous designs, make patterns, drape and construct fabulous garments with superior quality and in accordance with the latest trends. Eligibility:

• Admission will be made as per guidelines of AICTE & AKTU
• 10+2 with 50% and above marks in any discipline from a recognized board of education.
• Student can also take admission through UPSEE.
